Make Your Own Glycerin Soap | Lye Free | Recipe

We have started making our own bar soaps. After checking out the different methods of making soap, we decided that the glycerin based recipes were far better than lye based.

 We don't want lye in the house, or have to go through the process of dealing with it safely. We are more about keeping things green and chemical free. Therefore, this glycerin based product does just what we want.



Ingredients you need:

  • 2-3 ounces clear glycerin soap base
  • 2 TBSP melted cocoa butter~ optional
  • Few drops of your essential oil - make sure it is good for skin
  • Herbs or flower petals or any other inclusions ~ optional

Directions:

  • Use a double boiler over med-low heat to melt the glycerin soap base. Don't let the soap base boil, as that will ruin it. Stir it until it is well melted.
  • Add the cocoa butter if you are using it, and any coloring you are using. Stir it till it is nice and smooth. Remove from heat.
  • Now you can add your essential/aromatic oil and any other things -herbs, flower petals, etc.- that you desire. You will have to determine how much of the oils you want. Start with a drop or two. You can always add more.
  • Pour your mixture into your molds. Let them set for several hours until they are firm to the touch. Push them out of the molds. They are ready to use or wrap.
