Copper Coil Vases - How To

I was actually looking for a fun attractive way to make a sponge holder for my kitchen sink when I ran across this. I think if I curved the copper just right I can make it work for a sponge holder. It would be nice to look and and unique. 
Does anyone else have some ideas for a sponge holder. the only ones I'm finding right now are made out of plastic shampoo bottles and I just don't like the looks of them.
