Home Made Flea & Tick Solutions for Your Pet

Time to pay some attention to our pets now.

We both have dogs, and hate having to use chemicals to prevent fleas & ticks on them. So, let's look at a natural and home made product. I knew there had to be something out there that we could easily make at home, would not be 'way' expensive, and would work.

This one that I found makes perfect sense to me because it is made with essential oils and citrus fruits. I will be getting some liquid Castile soap to make the shampoo with, as it is all natural so won't harm the dogs skin. (it is made from coconut oil)

You can make your own flea powder too. Now, this is my own idea, but I know that it works just fine in our household.  Use good ole baking soda as the base-about 1 cup, and add some essential oil (lavender or eucalyptus or lemongrass) to it-just a couple of drops- you don't want it too strong, stir well,  let it dry, and rub that on your dog or cat. You know that baking soda is a natural anti-itch powder anyway. Of course, you can also use this mix in your carpeting for flea control. Fleas love to live in our carpeting, so let's invite them gone! If you like, you can even combine the essential oils for a different scent.

You can also make a spray with essential oils. Use up to 10 drops of lavender or eucalyptus or lemongrass or peppermint - or whatever combination of these you like- to a 32 oz spray bottle of water. Shake it up really well. Use a misting nozzle to spray this on your pet, around your house wherever needed to help control fleas, and even use it on yourself if you are allergic to flea bites.

You can also use Brewer's Yeast and Garlic pills to feed to your pet. This will help from the inside out, and they will think it is a 'treat'. If not, mix it in with their food.

There's one more product that you can use if you don't want to make your own- Avon SKIN SO SOFT Original Moisturizing Shower Gel Original Lot of 2 . I know for a fact that this one works too.  I used it on my Yorkie many many years ago.
