11 Uses for Beeswax

Beeswax can be used for so many things that I always keep a bar or two handy. Here is a short list of some of the things you can use it for.

1. Unstick a drawer: Rub beeswax on wooded rails and your drawer will glide easily
2. Condition your wood cutting boards: Add a half-teaspoon beeswax to a cup of Food Grade Mineral Oil, microwave until the wax melts, and apply the mixture to the board with a soft cloth.
3. Lube screws.  Rubs wax over the threads of screws making them easier to drive and resist corrosion.
4. Preserve bronze: To prevent oxidation caused by humidity, brush a mixture of 1/3 pound beeswax melted in 1 quart turpentine. Buff it with a towel to create a thin, hard coat. (Keep mixture away from flames)
5. Fix or prevent a frayed rope: Wrap a string soaked in wax tightly around the rope's tip about a dozen times. Tie off the loose end and trim the excess.
6.  Preserve a patina: Seal your copper by rubbing it with softened beeswax and polishing off the excess with a lint-free rag.
7. Waterproof leather: Combine equal parts beeswax, Tallow, and Neatsfoot Oil . Warm the mixture and use a rag to rub it on your work boots or gloves. 
8. Wax for skis: toboggans. Rub on bottom of skies and sleighs for a smoother/faster ride.
9. Belt Slippage: rub on belts to prevent slipping  in vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, etc.
10. Filling a hole in your tooth: If you have a filling fall out, work a small amount of beeswax between your fingers until soft and press into the hole until you can get to the dentist. 
11. Make your own lip balm: 8 tsp Sweet Almond Oil - 2 tsp Organic Beeswax - 1 tsp honey: warm over low heat and pour into Lip Balm Containers.
