It's the anthrocyanin compound in the black cherry that makes it so beneficial and gives cherries their color. This compound is best known for it's ability to act as an anti inflammatory agent. This makes it very beneficial in treating gout. The anthrocyanins reduce the level of uric acid in the body and allow the uric acid to pass from the body through urine. This relieves the pain from gout and can help prevent gout attacks from occurring to begin with.
Arthritis.
The anthrocyanins, combined with the bioflavenoids in black cherries, helps to reduce swelling in the joints when you have arthritis and reduces the stiffness as well.
Insomnia
If you suffer from insomnia like myself or are just looking for a better nights sleep, try drinking a small glass of black cherry juice a 1/2 hour before bedtime. The anthrocyanins help release the
hormone melatonin into your system. This produces a calming effect on
the body allowing you to sleep naturally. Look for a natural organic cherry juice if you cannot juice your own. If your juice is loaded with chemicals and other things you cannot pronounce it could have the opposite effect.
