Survival Kit for a Power Outage

With the winter weather here, and storms causing power outages, it is a good time to get some important supplies put in place. We all know to have candles around for lighting, right? How about heat for the house, or at least one room? How are you going to make your meals? Here are several great ideas you can implement for those 'no power' times.

1) Have a butane powered room heater ready to go.

2) Have your box of candles ready and easy to find. I have candles all over the house anyway, so all I have to do is light them. NEVER leave lit candles unattended.

3) Of course make sure you have flash lights with new batteries in them. Keep them together where you can find them easily.

4) Know where your warm blankets and warm clothes are, or have some in a special area that is easily found.

5)  If you have a BBQ grill - gas or charcoal, you will have heat to cook with, but don't use it in indoors! Ours is always in the garage where we can open a door for ventilation.

6) Keep your medications where they are easy to get to.

7) Have a battery powered radio handy with fresh batteries.

This is just a very basic list of ideas for a power outage. There is a very detailed book linked here that outlines what you need for a large disaster.

If you do not have a butane powered space heater, check out our link here to a really good one.
